LSP – Chapter 6 –  Adventure

Ever since reaching Level 2, Shari has been in an extremely good mood. It seems that she’s keeping the new blessing a secret from our parents. It’s weird to have two benefits at her age, not to mention, the content of the blessing is difficult to explain.

“Onii-chan, it will be a secret between us.” (Shari)

As she says that, she clung to my side. I tried to point out that she was clinging to me too much but her reply was…

“It’s normal for siblings to be like this.” (Shari)

Is it really normal? Or rather, we are not technically real siblings?

Putting this aside, I also decided to explain to my parents that I received a blessing. When they asked what kind of blessings I received, I replied that…

“I can tell when there are people outside even when I’m inside the house.”

They were confused by the blessing, but the important thing is that I received one. So, they congratulated me that day with a kind of “I see, I see” attitude.

For now, my parents’ worries have been resolved, and from now on, I will be treated like an adult. Although, at the moment, nothing much has changed. For example, I occasionally help out with farm work, like weeding and such. Officially, I will be treated as an adult starting from New Year’s, with things like head taxes and such.

Shari on the other hand, has become completely energetic. In fact, she might be more energetic than me. Levels are amazing. She seems fully determined to go on adventures together with me, but before that, there are things I want to investigate. Plus, I need to make preparations before I leave.

When I asked Shari about it, she said her new blessing is called “Protection”. She is starting to look like a white mage, but it doesn’t seem to be related to any god. She mentioned that she came up with the name for the blessing herself.

I tried asking about the specific effects, but she only gave a vague answer saying, “It protects”. It seems like that is all she knows about her blessing. <Protection> can encompass various possibilities. It could mean increased evasion, the creation of a barrier, or becoming more resilient, among other things.

For now, I asked her to use <Protection> on me. It’s a strange sensation, like a slight discomfort or itchiness, similar to stepping into a hot bath with a chilled body. Even though we don’t take baths in this world, it feels somewhat like that. Something seems to have changed, but I’m not quite sure what it is. It’s hard to understand.

“How is it?” (Shari)

“I’m not sure.” (Finn)

“Well, in that case…” (Shari)

She went and brought over a kitchen knife.

“Should I cut you a little?” (Shari)

“But I thought you were supposed to protect me?” (Finn)

“I will heal you, so don’t worry.” (Shari)

That was quite a paradoxical1 statement.

For now, I prepared about ten small stones and asked her to throw them at me. Of course, we were inside the house. It would be strange if people saw us behaving like this outside.

“Well, how is it, Onii-chan?” (Shari)

I don’t feel like my evasion had increased. No barriers appeared either. However, I did feel like it didn’t hurt when the stones hit me.

“It doesn’t seem to hurt.” (Finn)

Shari approached me and pulled on my cheek gently.

“It doesn’t feel any different when touched. In that case…” (Shari)

Suddenly, Shari hugged me tightly. Within the overall soft and squishy sensation, there was a slight fluffiness. Her chest was touching me slightly.

“How is it?” (Shari)

“It feels… soft, I guess.” (Finn)

Shari took a step back, applied <Protection> to herself, and then hugged me again.

“How is it?” (Shari)

“Um… It feels… soft, I guess.” (Finn)

Shari grabbed my right hand and pressed it against her chest.

“How is it?” (Shari)

My fingertips touched Shari’s skin. Her body had the lack of subcutaneous fat2 typical of a child. However, only the palm of my hand had a different kind of softness. Shari held onto my right hand and slowly slid it across. I could feel the elasticity, and there was a distinct sensation in the center of my palm.

“Um, it’s soft… I mean, excuse me.” (Finn)

Shari chuckled lightly. She was clearly doing it on purpose.

“Well, it doesn’t seem like it makes the body stiff.” (Shari)

Shari tilts her head slightly while holding the knife in her hand.

“Let’s give it a cut after all.” (Shari)

Is that really necessary?

After trying various experiments, it seems that when subjected to attacks with a certain degree of force, the skin hardens. By the way, when the knife was slowly pressed against the skin, it cut and blood came out normally. I asked Shari to heal the wound for me.

The question now is how long the effect lasts. Does it wear off over time, or does it diminish with the damage received? Does it suddenly end, or gradually weaken? In general, explanations in this otherworldly setting tend to be unhelpfully vague and lacking.

After throwing small stones at each other every five minutes, it seems that the Protection effect on Shari wore off after about two hours. Mine, on the other hand, lasted for another two hours. Well, it’s just an estimation since we don’t have a clock. If it can last for four hours, it could be useful as a substitute for armor during adventures.

Another thing to confirm would be how many times it can be used in a day, for both <Protection> and <Healing>. When I asked, it seems that <Protection> can be used twice, while <Healing> can be used four times. Before learning <Protection>, which is at Level 2, <Healing> could be used twice a day at Level 1. So it appears that the number of uses increases with the level.

As for my own blessing, it seems that I can use it as many times as I want as long as I look at the person’s level. However, since I need to stare at the person, I don’t always do it. On the other hand, for transferring levels, I can only transfer up until I am back to level 1. If I were to reach Level 0, there’s a possibility that I might die.

“Onii-chan, let’s go on an adventure.” (Shari)

Shari’s idea of an adventure seemed to involve going into the forest. She used to not be able to go outside at all, so this was a big step for her. We should equip ourselves with some weapons in case we encounter goblins. Even if it’s just a stick, it’s better than nothing.

Shari’s height is about 135cm. I start by carving a branch from an oak tree, making it approximately 1 meter in length using a knife. I peel off the bark and polish it. Well, this should do for now. Ideally, I would have liked to add weight to the head and attach spikes to make it more like a mace, but I don’t have the means to do such modifications myself.

“Look, it’s done!” (Finn)

I handed the weapon to Shari and she accepts it with a big smile, looking delighted.

“Alright, let’s give it a try.” (Finn)

We decided to take a short stroll around the neighborhood to test out the new weapon.

As we leave the village, we come across gentle hills with sprawling fields. It’s already autumn, but as long as the sun is out, it feels warm. The scenery is tranquil and peaceful. I decide to activate my <presence detection> and try to sense the surroundings. I can sense the presence of a rabbit and some sparrows, maybe. It’s not exactly seeing but more like a sensation that is closer to “hearing” in a way.

A glimpse of the forest can be seen a little further beyond the fields. Although I refer to it as a forest, the area near the village is often accessed by people for collecting firewood, so it’s not too dense. The trees are sparse, allowing sunlight to filter through, and it seems unlikely for goblins to appear in such an environment.

“Are there no goblins…?” (Finn)

I use my <presence detection> to investigate. Within the forest, I sense the presence of various small creatures rustling about. They seem to be small animals.

“Onii-chan, being outside is wonderful, isn’t it?” (Shari)

Shari had been unable to go outside until now, so everything she sees must be amazing to her. I hold Shari’s hand as we explore the forest together.

While we were picking up acorns and mushrooms, I noticed a slight change in the atmosphere. There were no signs of small animals. We might have ventured too deep into the forest. I held Shari’s hand and indicate to her to be silent. We went and hid in a nearby tree and I activate <presence detection>.

There it is. A Goblin is watching us from the shadows of the tree ahead. Our eyes meet. I slowly ready my spear.

“Waaahh!” (Finn)

I shout loudly and charge forward. The goblin freezes in its tracks when it heard my loud voice. Seizing this opportunity, I thrust my spear at it. The spear pierced through the goblin without getting stuck this time. Bracing myself, I swiftly withdraw the spear and thrust it at the goblin once more, twisting it.

The goblin turns into black smoke and vanishes.

“Onii-chan, I forgot to cast <Protection> on you. I’m sorry.” (Shari)

Today, I intended to just get used to exploring, but it seems like I went a bit too deep into the forest. Let’s go back now.

Protection!

Shari activates her blessing with a smug expression. That familiar, slightly itchy sensation spreads throughout my body. It’s a little late for that, but I suppose the adventure continues until we return home.

By the way, speaking of levels, I gained about 0.1 levels after defeating the goblin just now. I’m not sure if Shari has gained any levels.

The difference in levels could be due to me delivering the finishing blow or perhaps because Shari’s level is higher than mine. Let’s further investigate the conditions to verify.

From that day on, Shari and I went into the forest around two days a week under the pretense of picking mushrooms. Before venturing deeper into the woods, Shari would cast Protection on me.

We only encountered goblins as monsters. It’s actually better if we don’t come across larger creatures like giant boars. Although I managed to defeat them most of the time, there were occasions when I couldn’t finish them off, and Shari would deliver the final blow. Shari would swing her staff-like weapon with a gleeful expression, enthusiastically striking the goblins. It’s a bit scary, to be honest.

After defeating goblins relentlessly for about a month, I’ve come to realize something.

The experience points earned from defeating monsters are divided among the party members.

Only half of the experience points go to the person who delivers the finishing blow.

A level 2 person receives only 1/4 of the experience points earned by a level 1 individual.

That means, when I gain 0.1 experience points by delivering the finishing blow to a goblin, Shari would only receive 1/8 of that amount, making it a very small number. It’s hard to grasp such small numbers, but that’s the general idea.

So, if I keep defeating goblins and reach level 2, Shari would be around level 2.1 or slightly higher.

“It’s been a while since I reached level 2.” (Finn)

I feel a bit excited.

And this time, I finally obtained the blessings of the spear. Well, that was part of the plan all along.

The problem lies in what happens afterwards. Upon reaching level 2, my body became more agile, and I can defeat goblins more easily than before. However, my level isn’t increasing significantly. Even after defeating 10 goblins, I only gained around 0.25 experience points. In other words, the rule of “a level 2 individual receives only 1/4 of the experience points earned by a level 1 individual” is still being applied.

If I were to transfer my level to Shari, it’s unclear what would happen. One possibility is that Shari would become level 3, but there is also a possibility that the rule of receiving only 1/4 of the experience points would still apply. There is even a chance that Shari’s level won’t increase at all. Well, even if it turns out to be a failure, the loss would be limited to a month’s worth of progress.

“What kind of blessing do you want next, Shari?” (Finn)

“Of course, it’s a blessing that will help Onii-chan!” (Shari)

As Shari says, she raised her nose with a proud expression.

I embrace Shari and gaze into her eyes. I can’t help but feel that these moments can be incredibly awkward if the timing isn’t right. What should I do?

Shari smiled softly and closed her eyes. She opened her mouth slightly and leaned forward. I pressed my lips against hers, covering her mouth. Her lips moved gently, and as I cautiously slipped my tongue between them, her delicate tongue entwined with mine. Within the joined space of our mouths, we both explored each other’s tongues.

Level connection!” (Finn)

Shari accepts me, and a level circuit is formed.

Begin level transfer!” (Finn)

I release my lips from Shari’s, a strand of saliva connecting us.

Only our heavy breathing can be heard. I check our levels…

Shari’s level has reached 3.

Hmm, this situation may be a bit problematic.

TL notes:

Thanks for reading!

I love that illustration, especially when you remember that Shari rarely goes outside cause of her illness. Btw 2nd sister (Akari) appears in the next chapter.

I have updated the character list and the ToC page so that it looks way nicer now. I uploaded a quick peek at how Akari looks like in character list, the images are actually from a character summary at the end of the first volume, but I think they look nice in the character list.

I wonder if NU is gonna accept the ToC vol 1 image as the cover image.

P.S. Ok I decided to add the Romance genre to this series. In later chapters, it becomes more obvious that this isn’t just familial love. Plus, they flirt a lot with each other.

LSP – Chapter 5 –  Level up

After my parents left for the fields in the morning, I quietly snuck out of the house while carrying a spear (completed).

“Onii-chan!” (Shari)

Shari found me.

“Where are you going?” (Shari)

“Oh, just taking a walk, you know.” (Finn)

“With a spear?” (Shari)

“Well, you know, it’s been dangerous lately.” (Finn)

Shari is giving me a suspicious look with narrowed eyes, but there’s a smirk on her face.

“In that case, Shari will go with you.” (Shari)

“No, seriously, it’s really dangerous.” (Finn)

“See? You’re planning to do something dangerous after all.” (Shari)

Shari walks up to me with small, quick steps and tightly hugs my back.

“Onii-chan, Shari will protect you.” (Shari)

“Well, you see, Shari, until recently, you couldn’t even walk around the village. It was that dangerous. Going outside the village is even more risky. There might be situations where we have to run and escape. We need to build up more stamina.” (Finn)

“Mouu~” (Shari)

After hearing that, Shari pouts. Adorable.

“Then, when I become the same age as Onii-chan, I am going with you.” (Shari)

“Hmm, well, I guess that works.”(Finn)

I decided to temporarily postpone the decision for now.

I have to at least raise my level before that happens.

This will be my third goblin-hunting session. Although, the first time I was not exactly looking for goblins.

I arrive at the usual spot where goblins are likely to appear. While I’m at it, might as well search for some medicinal herb.

“…” (Finn)

I thought that there might be goblins around, but when I searched around, I can’t seem to find any. I only came across medicinal herbs.

“Hmm…” (Finn)

Come to think of it, goblins have only appeared when I was caught off guard. They might be hiding and observing me.

*Goron*1. I try rolling around. 10 seconds, 20 seconds, 30 seconds. No, this is scary. It’s too scary to think that there might be goblins approaching me while I’m doing this. Let’s stop.

I raise my head and see a goblin slowly reaching out, trying to grab my spear.

“Uwahhh!” (Finn)

No progress.2

I swing the spear around as I get up. When the shaft of the spear cleanly hits the goblin’s head, the goblin rolls over. My spear got knocked away during the impact. I chased after it and step on the spear to stop it and pick it up.

“With this, my hand is now complete… right?” (Finn)

While muttering a heroic line as if I was a protagonist, I aim the spear at the goblin, who struggles to get up. I thrust at the center of its chest as practiced. I feel the solid sensation of hitting bones, but I did not stop. I continue to push and twist with a grinding motion as the spear pierces through the goblin.

“Um, what should I do now?” (Finn)

The spear won’t come out!

Feeling a bit panicked, I swing the spear around, but the goblin turns into black smoke and disappears. No, if there were more of them, it could be dangerous. In my practice, I never thought about the spear getting stuck like this. I need to think about this later.

Curious, I take a look at the tip of the spear. It doesn’t seem loose. Looks like there was no damage to it. By the way, what about my level? I check my own level. It was around 1.2 last time, if I remember correctly. My level is…

1.5…not. Maybe around 1.4 or so.

When I strangled the goblin the first time, my level reached 1.5, and after defeating the dagger-wielding goblin, it reached to around 2.0, so it increased by around 0.5. This time’s goblin might have been around 0.2? Perhaps it’s due to a different type of goblin or the difference in weapons. Speaking of which, the goblin I just fought had a club. In that case, I have to hunt 3 more of the same type.

If it’s just a club-wielding goblin, I don’t think it’s too strong, and now that I have the advantage of civilized weapons, I believe I can defeat it. However, the real challenge is finding them. Should I venture further into the depths? But what if multiple goblins appear? Hmm.

Let’s retreat for now. I am cautious.

I go to the herb grandma’s place and hand her the medicinal herbs I gathered earlier.

“Grandma, I brought this for you.” (Finn)

“Oh, Finn. By the way, is your sister feeling better?” (Grandma)

“Yeah, thanks to you. By the way, Grandma, is there any way to find goblins?” (Finn)

“Well, goblins are like fairies, you see. It’s quite difficult for humans to spot them.” (Grandma)

Looks like things are going to be tough.

“Here, this is a token of gratitude for the medicinal herbs.” (Grandma)

“Thank you!” (Finn)

After receiving the reward for a quest I didn’t even accept, I went to buy an apple and headed to the blacksmith.

“Here, this is a token of gratitude from the other day!” (Finn)

I hand him the apple.

“Oh, thank you. By the way, is that spearhead part of the dagger from the other day?” (Blacksmith)

“Yeah, that’s right. I made it myself.” (Finn)

“Alright, let me take a look. Hmm, not bad at all. You have done a good job.” (Blacksmith)

I feel happy to be praised by a professional.

“By the way, once it gets stuck, it’s hard to pull it out. Any suggestions on what to do?” (Finn)

“Well, that is probably because you need more practice. Hmm, let me see it for a moment.” (Blacksmith)

The blacksmith creates something like a sword guard using a thick scrap of leather. He makes notches and inserts the spearhead into them, firmly securing it until the handle.

“What do you think about this?” (Blacksmith)

“It looks great! Thank you, uncle!” (Finn)

Now, it’s time for a rematch with the goblins!

The next morning, I head back to the forest with the spear (improved version) in hand. Shari had a worried look on her face, but I only need one or two more level-ups. I will have to ask her to be patient for a little longer. It’s okay; I have the advantage of civilized weaponry.

I enter the forest, going a bit deeper than usual. It feels darker here. Is this really going to be alright? Can I go back if needed?

Feeling increasingly concerned, I decided to turn back. I am a cautious person, after all.

“Gue!” (Goblin)

I turn around. It’s a goblin! This is my chance! I ready my spear.

“Guee!” (Goblin)

I hear another goblin’s voice from behind. What? I turn around again, and there’s another goblin there. Uh-oh, I’m trapped! These goblins are working together like a party, despite being goblins!

“Gueguegue!” (Goblin)

I hear the sound of the goblin in front of me running. The goblin in front is only 5 meters away now.

I advance, holding my spear. I aim for the center of their bodies. At the moment of impact, I twist the spear and feel the sensation of cutting through flesh. I continue running and deliver a kick to the fallen goblin. With the goblin under my foot, I retrieve my spear. The goblin beneath me suddenly disappeared in a puff of smoke. I stumbled a bit managed to regain my balance and turn around.

I lock eyes with the goblin behind me. It’s wielding a dagger.

“Hey. Long time no see.” (Finn)

Well, I think this one is different from the previous one. I already defeated the previous one. But they all look the same, so it’s hard to tell.

I ready my spear. This time, I will win with the advantage of civilized weaponry!

In the end, I emerged victorious against the dagger-wielding goblin. It was a close victory.

While the spear had a significant advantage in terms of reach, it was difficult to swing it freely in the forest. We ended up engaged in a messy, blood-soaked brawl, and in the end, I managed to take down the goblin with a tackle and then strangled it to death. It was far from civilized, but a win is a win. After all, if I had lost, I would have been killed. I could not afford to be picky about my methods.

And my level increased. It seems that defeating the dagger-wielding goblin granted me a level boost of around 0.5.

By the way, did I get a blessing?

Originally, I had desired the blessing of spear. However, during the intense struggle with the dagger-wielding goblin, I realized that “a spear is not effective in this fight.” Perhaps because of that, I didn’t acquire the blessing of spear. Instead I got…

“Presence Detection Ability?” (Finn)

It seems that the desire to find goblins was strong within me. As a result, I obtained another difficult-to-explain blessing.

However, it’s worth noting that the dagger did not drop as loot this time.

I leave the forest and approach the village. At the entrance, I see a girl standing there. The girl started to approach me. It’s Shari.

“See, I knew it was something dangerous.” (Shari)

Sorry.

“Onii-chan” (Shari)

Shari embraces me. Although I am worried about getting her clothes dirty again, I don’t say anything. Or rather, I feel drained. It was a close call. I thought I was going to die. Without Shari’s support, I might have collapsed.

Heal” (Shari)

Although the soothing light may not be visible under the sun, the warmth continues to flow into my body from Shari’s touch. The pain of my wounds starts to fade away.

“Thank you, Shari.” (Finn)

“Well, it can’t be helped. Because your Onii-chan.” (Shari)

I gently stroke Shari’s head. Her golden hair shines and sparkles under the sunlight.

“Shari, speaking of which…” (Finn)

“What is it, Onii-chan?” (Shari)

“If you could receive one more blessing, what would it be?” (Finn)

Shari released her hold on my body slightly and looked at my face.

“I want to protect you, Onii-chan.” (Shari)

“I understand.” (Finn)

Shari embraced me once again, and I wrapped my arms around her, holding her tightly. I gently ran my fingers through her flowing golden hair. Shari, still clinging to me, lifted her face and placed her hand on the back of my head.

We gazed into each other’s eyes. Her eyes were filled with anticipation, looking up at me. It felt a bit embarrassing. Why don’t you close your eyes? Oh well, there’s no helping it. I made up my mind and our lips met. I explored Shari’s lips with mine, feeling her delicate tongue. I sucked on her lips for a moment and our tongues touched. Maybe this is deep enough.

Level connection!” (Finn)

I concentrate. Through the connection of our lips, a circuit of levels is formed, flowing from my mouth to Shari’s. Shari accepts me. Power tries to flow out from my body.

Begin Level Transfer!” (Finn)

Shari’s level bar above her head continues to rise: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3…

“Mmm, aah, ah, hmmm…” (Finn/Shari)

The level keeps increasing. 1.8, 1.9. Then, the second bar starts flashing and stops at 2.0.

“Mm, mm, Onii…chan…” (Shari)

We part our lips, but Shari remains clinging to me. A strand of saliva glistens in the sunlight, bridging the gap between our mouths. I feel my strength drained away and I know that I would collapse if I let go of Shari. We stand there, holding each other for a while. The warmth of the sun envelops us.

“Shari, people will pass by here.” (Finn)

“It’s your fault, Onii-chan.” (Shari)

Shari pouts and moves away slightly, puffing up her cheeks.

“But, thank you. Onii-chan.” (Shari)

I wonder if I can form a party with Shari next time. Since I am at Level 1, I need to make sure that I don’t hold her back.

TL notes:

Thanks for reading!

LOL I didn’t expect Finn to get screwed by the constant desire to look for goblins. If he keeps going like this, he might just become a Goblin Slayer. Also HEH? What is protection? Issit like some sort of damage immunity for a specific duration? If it is that could be pretty op.

You know what, I think I’m gonna switch back to using “little sister” instead of “imouto”. Maybe once in a while I’ll use “imouto” again. “Onii-chan” stays tho.

Btw I am aware that sometimes I switch between “<name> blessing”, “blessing of <name>” and some other way. From now on, I’ll try to standardize it to the second format since it sounds cooler.

IMPORTANT: WordPress is very dumb and will sometimes randomly cause text/image to disppear. This only happens with text/image which has anchors on them (aka text which links to footnote). Soo… If you guys find some footnote with missing text which links to it, send a comment there and I’ll go and fix it. So yeh I rly need your help for this one cause idk when text is past chapters are gonna randomly disappear. Thanks!

LSP – Chapter 4 –  Spear

After that, there was a bit of a commotion, but when Shari used her healing blessing to heal Dad’s wound, it seems that both parents were satisfied. They were also happy to hear Shari call them “Mom” and “Dad”. If Shari has found her place, I’m also happy.

That evening, we celebrated Shari’s new blessing with a feast. Dinner was a wild boar pot-au-feu1. Shari made it herself, and the meat broth seeped into the vegetables, making it delicious.

By the way, when I saw my father covered in scrapes all over, I once again realized how dangerous hunting can be. However, Shari’s healing blessing is truly amazing. The wounds disappear smoothly, and when the scabs come off, nothing remains.

It was decided that Shari’s blessing would remain a secret from others. It would be troublesome if her blessing was exposed as it may lead to being kidnapped. Besides, Shari is supposed to be 11 years old so she should not have received a blessing yet.

There are several things I want to confirm like whether Shari is really alright, and whether she will get more blessings on her upcoming birthday. However, I can’t verify these things right now, so all I can do is wait. Let’s focus on what can be done at the moment.

“Dad, can you teach me how to use a spear? I want to have the spear blessing too.” (Finn)

“Well, hmm, I suppose so. But hunting is still too early for you.” (Father)

“Thank you, Father.” (Finn)

After that, it was decided that I would receive spear training from my father every evening. My parents would go and work in the fields in the morning. At noon, they would have a light lunch and take a nap and the evening would be dedicated to preparing and having dinner before going to bed. I was in charge of household chores like laundry and chopping firewood. Shari also helped with the cooking.

First, I need a spear for practice. I started to search for a straight and slender tree at the edge of the forest. I thought it would be best to use an oak tree for its durability, but it was too durable to cut with a knife. It took me two days to gradually shave and finally cut it out. In hindsight, I should have used the hatchet that we had for chopping firewood.

After that, I spent another day peeling off the bark and polishing it to make it into a 2-meter-long pole. It was my makeshift spear. It didn’t have a spearhead, but iron is expensive and not easily purchasable. Well, I had a plan for this.

Now that the makeshift spear was ready, I asked my father to train me. First, he taught me the proper stance and grip. We started with basic thrusting movements and swings. To be honest, it was tough. The spear felt really heavy. Although my father’s spear was several times heavier than mine. We practiced side by side every day.

After a month, I began to feel like I was getting the hang of it, to some extent.

I spotted the lord’s knights in the village square. It was the duty of the lord’s knights to patrol the outskirts of the village and eliminate any monsters they encountered. There seemed to be several other villages aside from ours, although I had never been to them. People on horseback and on foot would regularly come to the village.

This could be an opportunity. I approached the knights resting in the village square and decided to strike up a conversation.

“Hello. Are you Wen-san?” (Finn)

“Yeah, that’s me.” (Wen)

She was wearing chainmail and had been the one riding the horse. She is most likely a higher-ranked knight.

“I heard about you from Tip.” (Finn)

“You speak quite politely for a child. Are you a friend of Tip? Come to think of it, I haven’t seen him around lately. What happened?” (Wen)

Ah, I was feeling so nervous that I did not talk like a child.

“No, it’s Tip… He is dead.” (Finn)

“I see.” (Wen)

In this world, the death of a child was not uncommon.

The conversation suddenly became difficult to continue… I should have thought about my reply more carefully.

“When Tip was still alive, we had talked about becoming stronger together… Can you teach me how to become stronger?” (Finn)

“I see. Well, being strong can mean different things. How do you want to become strong, young child?” (Wen)

“Um, I want to be able to defeat monsters. That way, I can visit other towns and go on adventures.” (Finn)

I told her about my childlike dreams.

“No, monsters are dangerous, you know. Well, I will consider it.” (Wen)

Wen-san asks her assistant to bring a couple of wooden sticks.

“I will assess whether you have the potential to defeat monsters. Choose one of these to use.” (Finn)

I chose a familiar 2-meter-sized wooden stick from the few options. Wen-san, on the other hand, picks a staff-like stick.

“Come on, show me what you’ve got.” (Wen)

Having been trained by my father in spear skills, I am not a complete amateur in fighting. As I deliver a thrust, Wen-san’s expression becomes slightly more serious.

“Have you been practicing?” (Wen)

“Yes, my dad taught me.” (Finn)

“I see.” (Wen)

Wen-san lowers the wooden stick.

“It seems like you have the basics down, but your bald-headed father must have been a hunter. If you want to face monsters, it’s better to have some experience in combat with other people.” (Wen)

Wen-san turns to her assistants and addresses them.

“Hey, you guys, lend me a hand and teach him a little.” (Wen)

After about two hours, my body is covered in bruises and I am completely worn out.

“I’ll be here tomorrow too. We will focus on monster extermination in the morning, but I’ll spar with you in the afternoon.” (Wen)

“Tha… thank you…” (Finn)

With a sense of relief, I finally make my way back home.

When I arrived home, Shari came and heal me causing the bruises to quickly disappear in an instant. Her blessing is truly amazing. It felt like magic, or perhaps it really was magic.

The knights stayed for another two days before heading towards the next village. As for me, despite being repeatedly worn out, I persevered with the help of Shari’s healing. I feel that my muscles are getting stronger. Perhaps this is what they call “super recovery2“. My level has also increased to around 1.2. It seems that this training contributed to my levels.

We had various conversations during practice. Apparently, this place is a baron’s territory, and the lord is Baron Verbal. There are about six villages in total, and this village is said to be one of the larger ones.

By the way, the name of this village is Moule Village. Within the village, we only refer to it as “village,” so I was never really aware of its name. The population of a baron’s territory is about a thousand people in total. I was wondering if there are cities with walls surrounding them, but it seems that they only exist in a count’s territory or something along that line.

I take out a goblin dagger from the treasure chest (mine) in my bedroom. It has a blade length of about 15 cm. The blade is rusty, but it’s made of iron. I wonder if it can be used if I sharpen it.

I decide to take it to the blacksmith in the village. When he asks me how I got it, I tell him that I got it from a goblin.

“This is definitely made by humans. The goblins must have picked it up. Let me sharpen it a bit for you.” (Blacksmith)

The blade regains its silver color.

“It’s usable now, but the handle is in tatters.” (Blacksmith)

“No, it’s fine! Thank you very much!” (Finn)

I return home with the gleaming dagger. I use a knife to carve and dismantle the handle. After removing the metal part, I try fitting it into the groove I carved for my makeshift spear which I created by marking the spot with charcoal and carefully carving it out with the knife. It’s tough because the wood is hard, but I spend about two days shaping the groove in the wood. When I fit the handle of the dagger into it, the size is a perfect fit. I guess this will do.

I collect pine resin from a pine tree I found in the forest, mix it with charcoal, and heat it over a fire. Once it becomes soft, I press it onto the groove of the makeshift spear’s handle and insert the dagger blade into it. It’s like using adhesive. Then, I tightly wrap it with hemp threads. By the way, this knowledge is something Finn always had. Once the pine resin cools and solidifies, the spear is finally complete! I try thrusting it into a standing tree, but it doesn’t come off. It seems to be holding up fine.

I wonder how strong it is… Well, I’m worried when it comes to dealing with boars or bears, but if it’s goblins, I should be able to handle it somehow.

TL notes:

Thanks for reading!

Here you go, another LSP chapter. As you can tell this novel is pretty slow-paced and I guess my slow upload schedule doesn’t exactly help but the chapters are just too wordy. Well, at least the world-building is decent.

I’m not exactly clear about Wen’s gender but “san” was used, so I think she is a female. I might have butchered that last 2 paragraphs, my boy was doing some complicated stuff which was too much for my smol brain.

For those who are unfamiliar with the noble ranks and stuff, it goes like this: Royalty > Duke > Marquis/Marquess > Earl/Count > Viscount > Baron.

I was hesitant to put harem tag on this series since I don’t consider 2 female leads a Harem, more of a love triangle, but laterer in the story there will be a third female lead so yeh.

  1. Pot-au-feu: French boiled dinner of meat and vegetables (thank you google-sensei)
  2. I don’t understand this either, I tried to google it but got nothing.

LSP – Chapter 3 – Blessings

Its nighttime. In the bedroom where our family sleeps, I was lying sideways facing Shari. My imouto is sleeping facing upwards and breathing steadily. Her sleeping face surrounded by flowing thin golden hair looks very angelic.

While gazing at my imouto’s sleeping face, I think about my future plans.

Shari is about to turn 13 years old. It seems that children who turn 13 in this world who do not receive any blessings will die. This is the first point to note.

Next, it seems that in order to receive blessings, one must increase their level. This is the second point to note.

Lastly, in order to increase the level, one must defeat a large boar. And this is a high hurdle. I tried to imagine a scene where Shari holds a spear and was placed in the path of a large boar, but it’s impossible.

“Maybe it doesn’t have to be a large boar?” (Finn)

This world has a game-like aspect to it. If it doesn’t have to be a boar, a goblin should work just fine. Or maybe even a chicken.

Come to think of it, Shari sometimes butchers our chickens, but her level doesn’t go up. Maybe it has to be a stronger opponent.

So far, I have come up with two possible solutions.

The first solution is to take Shari to the forest and defeat a goblin. However, she might have to join the fight as well. There is also a possibility that she might need to deliver the finishing blow. If this was a game, we could just register her in a party, but there’s no such thing in this world.

The second solution is to go to the forest and catch a goblin alive, and then let Shari deliver the finishing blow. The problem is, can I even catch a goblin alive? Earlier today, I got scared by one and ran away from it.

Also, I’m not sure if defeating a captured goblin would increase Shari’s level. If it’s like experience points in a game, she might need to fight and gain experience to level up.

Come to think of it, I’m not even sure if defeating an uncaptured goblin would really increase Shari’s level. There are too many assumptions in this plan.

For now, I’ll try defeating a goblin myself. The real discussion can start from there. If I see that it can lead to Shari leveling up, then I’ll figure out how to catch a goblin. First things first, I need to conduct an experiment.

While thinking about this, Shari turned over and hugged me from the front. She usually hugged me from behind, so I was caught off guard. Well, maybe just for tonight I’ll hug Shari from the front. In front of me was my imouto’s sleeping face. I gently touched her face and slid my hand across her soft and translucent skin. I quietly pulled her body close to me..

As I embraced her slender body, she snuggles comfortably in my arms.

“Onii-chan will do something about it…” (Finn)

Mm~” Shari, who was supposed to be sleeping, made a small sound. I gently stroked her silky blonde hair.

I’ll do my best, Shari.

The next morning, I sneaked out of the house after my parents left for the field. I entered the forest but didn’t go too deep because it was scary. I stopped by where I found the medicinal herbs the other day, grip my knife tightly as I sit under a tree, and wait quietly. However, the goblin doesn’t seem to be coming out anytime soon…I’m getting sleepy.

“Guuuee…” (Goblin)

I hear a noise. It seems like I dozed off for a bit. I was up late last night thinking about things, after all…

“Guuee, guuee” (Goblin)

I opened my eyes wide. There it was, right in front of me. It was a goblin.

“Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!” (Finn)

I didn’t improve at all.

I can’t tell if it is the same goblin as before, but it seemed to be just as startled by my loud scream as before and dropped the club-like thing it was holding in its hand. Seeing that, I start to calm down a bit. It was about one meter tall, which is scary if you think of it as a large dog, but not so scary if you think of it as a kindergartener.

“This is just a kindergarten kid!” (Finn)

I grip the knife tightly and stand up, then lunge forward to stab it. However, the goblin seems scared and falls on its backside, causing my knife to barely graze its head without piercing through. I lose my balance and end up falling on top of the goblin, causing the knife to slip out of my hand and roll away.

“Guuu…Guueee” (Goblin)

The goblin under me struggles, flailing its arms and legs while trying to scratch me. I hold it down with all my might. I can’t let it go free. Even if it’s just a weakling, it’s a monster as big as a large dog. I put my hand on the goblin’s neck.

“Die, die, die, die…” (Finn)

I keep strangling it while being scratched by the goblin. 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 20 seconds…

Suddenly, the goblin in my hands disappears in a puff of smoke.

“Phew.” (Finn)

I stand up and pick up my knife. While facing the front, I concentrate on looking above my head to see my level bar. I was hoping to level up to level 2 or get some new blessings, but I don’t feel like I gained anything.

Let me think. Perhaps because goblins are weak, they aren’t worth much levels. My current level is probably around 1.5. What was my original level again? I only paid attention to Shari’s level and don’t remember my own. I sure am stupid in many ways.

Did I really defeat the goblin just now? I didn’t even know that goblins turned into smoke when defeated. In fact, I didn’t know anything. I’m too unprepared. And I’m supposed to be a former university student. Maybe I’m letting my childish excitement get the best of me. I need to start thinking more carefully.

As a Japanese person, it’s probably necessary to have some modern tools at hand. But all I have is a knife, and I don’t even know how to use it properly. I tried to think of various common tropes from novels in my head.

“I guess we could try this.” (Finn)

I decided to dig a pitfall.

However, there’s no shovel here. And even if I go back home, I don’t have anything like a shovel. We do have a hoe, but my dad took it to the field.

I cut a thick branch from a tree with my knife and carve it diagonally. Then, I put my weight on it and thrust it into the ground, causing the soil to sink. I think I’m on the right track, so I decide to keep doing this for a while.

30 minutes later…

“No, this is impossible!” (Finn)

So far, I’ve only dug a hole that’s 50x50cm and 20cm deep. I have already broken two branches of the tree. Even if I had a shovel, it would be impossible for a child like me to do this alone. Do murderers really bury bodies in the forest like this?

Come to think of it, even if I dug a pitfall, I wouldn’t know if the goblin would fall into it. Unless there’s bait or something. What do goblins eat anyway? Me?

“Gu-e!” (Goblin)

When I looked up from the hole, there was a goblin right there.

Unlike the goblin I strangled earlier, this one was holding a rusty short sword. Meanwhile, I was holding a broken tree branch that I had been using to dig the hole. The goblin seemed to be more civilized than me.

“Gwe-h!” (Goblin)

The goblin jumps at me. I quickly swipe at it with the wooden branch in my hand, but its short sword grazes my leg. That was close. No, I’m bleeding. This isn’t just dangerous, it’s really bad. Aren’t goblins supposed to be cowards?!

I swing the wooden branch and face the goblin. The goblin brandishes1 its rusty short sword menacingly. It looks like the goblin is much more confident than I am. Hmm, what should I do in this situation?

I quickly crouch down and grab some dirt, throwing it in the goblin’s face. The goblin swats it away with its left hand and swings its sword at me. It grazes my right hand, causing a slight impact. It doesn’t hurt much at first, but blood starts flowing from the wound. The pain may come later. This is getting tough, and I feel like crying.

“Guooo!” (Goblin)

The goblin jumps at me again. Its short sword is aimed at my face. I try to dodge it, but at that moment, my foot slips on the ground. My foot slips in the air, and I fall down. A hole! Who dug a hole here?!

Fortunately or unfortunately, I was able to dodge the goblin’s short sword as I fell. Since the goblin’s foot is right in front of me, I grabbed it and pulled on it hard. The goblin, who had swung his short sword in vain, lost it’s balance and fell on it’s back. I quickly stood up and landed a knee drop on the goblin’s stomach.

“Gue!” (Goblin)

A strange sound comes out of the goblin, and the short sword falls from its hand. I stretch out my left hand and grab the short sword, then I hold it in my opposite hand and thrust it into the goblin’s stomach, putting all my weight behind it. I push it in, and the short sword sinks into the goblin’s body. Then, I turn it round and round. I put my weight on it and push it from the stomach to the chest. I feel the sensation of the short sword cutting through flesh and hitting the bone. I keep pushing and twisting it.

Suddenly, the goblin turns into black smoke and disappears, and a hot power wells up inside me. It’s a different sensation than when I strangled the goblin to death earlier. Did I level up? What should I do? I try to recall what my father said.

“I want to raise Shari’s level, I want to raise Shari’s level.” (Finn)

I strongly wish for this while being burned by the heat swirling inside me. I hear a high-pitched sound in my ears and feel a sensation as if my body is being disintegrated. And then…suddenly the world returns to normal.

I check my level and see that the second bar has reached its limit. I can feel a new blessing.

I stand up. Although I have injuries here and there, my body feels light. I feel a general sense of tuning in my body and start to feel excited. I can now understand why my father’s excitement was high. So this is level 2.

I look around and confirm that there are no more goblins. The goblin’s short sword is lying at my feet. Is this a drop item? It’s a valuable weapon. I pick it up and decide to take it home. Now, I should head back to Shari.

When I sneak into the house, my parents are still in the field. Shari, whos is in the kitchen, looks back at me.

“Onii-chan, where have you been? And you’re covered in blood! What happened?” (Shari)

I rush over to my imouto who has a surprised look on her face and hug her small body tightly.

“Shari…” (Finn)

“Onii-chan, are you okay? Onii-chan…” (SharI)

Seeing me covered in blood and mud and in tattered clothes, Shari looks surprised. Even though I might soil Shari’s clothes, I hold my little sister tighter and embrace her with all my might. I knew how to do it in my head.

Peering down at my little sister’s cute face, I place my hand on the back of her head with the fine, silky blonde hair flowing over my hand. As Shari lifts her face a little, I slowly bring my face closer. Shari pouts and closes her eyes.

We kissed, activating the blessing. I recite the incantation in my mind.

Level Connection!” (Finn)

Shari accepts me. A level circuit is formed between Shari and me.

Begin Level Transfer!2” (Finn)

Strength drains from my body and flows into my imouto’s body.

“Mm, hmm, hmm…”

Shari opened her eyes in astonishment, but doesn’t back away.

“Mm, mm, ahn, ah, ah…”

Her face turns bright red. Her eyes become cloudy. It feels somehow sexy. If she weren’t my imouto, it would be a bit dangerous.

The bar above my little sister’s head that I’m embracing starts to extend. It goes from 0.1 to 0.2, then 0.3, and continues to grow. It reaches around 0.8 or 0.9 and still continues to grow. When all the strength drains from my body, the bar above Shari’s head reaches its limit. The bar flashes for a moment. It stops growing once it breaks through the first level.

Overwhelmed by the feeling of weakness, I close my eyes. I can hear Shari’s heavy breathing. I feel like collapsing onto Shari as all my strength leaves my body, but my little sister is standing firmly in my arms. I hear her murmur.

“Blessing… I received a blessing… I have to heal Onii-chan’s wounds.” (Shari)

At those words, I open my eyes. Shari’s rough breathing has quieted down. Shari gently embraces me, who has lost all my strength. Our gazes meet slowly. She gives me a challenging look with a satisfied smile on her face, looking a bit smug. Then, her lips part, and warm words of power flow out of her mouth.

“Heal!” (Shari)

For a moment, the surroundings are illuminated by a soft light.

I washed and changed my clothes which were dirty with blood and mud. Although they were clothes dyed using plants and trees in a rural farming village, they were originally brown and didn’t stand out. I also changed Shari’s clothes into her nightwear and washed them, as they were also covered in mud.

Shari pours a cup of water for me, which I drank in one gulp while standing before sitting down.

“So, what happened, Onii-chan?” (Shari)

Right, I need to organize my thoughts a bit and explain everything.

First, Shari is at level 1. Her presence, which was on the verge of disappearing, is now clear. Her eyes are powerful and she’s staring at me intently.

And then there’s me.

I check my own level. It has dropped to level 1. I can confirm that the blessings are still within me, as I can see my level. Level transfer also seems like it could be useful, but I don’t want to use it now in case I accidentally die from becoming level 0, so I’ll seal it for now.

And then I realized, even if my level drops, my blessings don’t disappear.

I may have gone back to level 1, but the blessing I received when I was level 2 is still present. What will happen if I reach level 2 again? I’ll have to experiment with this later.

“Onii-chan, you’re thinking of something bad, aren’t you?” (Shari)

“Nononono, not at all.” (Finn)

“You seem a little uneasy, but… well…” (Shari)

Shari came in front of me. She sat down on my lap and hugged me from the front.

“I’ll protect you, Onii-chan.” (Shari)

Shari’s arms which are holding my head are stronger than before. It feels good to have the soft part pressed against my head, but it also makes me fidgety.

For some reason, I am starting to feel embarrassed so, I try to pull away, but she didn’t let go. I gave up and wrap my arms around her back and felt the squishy body of a child. Her waist is slender, lacking a feminine curve, but her legs are firmly planted on the ground.

“Oh my, you two seem close.” (Mother)

Looks like our parents returned from the fields while we were hugging. I quickly removed my arms from around her and felt awkward.

Shari turned towards our parents.

“Mom, Dad!” (Shari)

Her voice was strong.

“Shari has received a blessing. Shari will protect Onii-chan!” (Shari)

Shari looked proud of herself, and our parents looked at her in surprise.

Why am I the one being protected?

TL notes:

Thanks for reading!

Oh would you look at that, the author gave a character summary too, I guess I’ll follow his format in my own character list.

Hmm, I have a feeling that Finn will be able to get a new Blessing every time he hit level 2. Also Finn, you completely forgot to tell Shari about what happened. Well, it’ll probably get covered next chapter or when Shari insists on/force herself to follow him.

Btw I won’t put names for the kissing lines, since it’s a bit awkward to do so. Besides, you know exactly what those words mean.

Footnotes:

  1. Brandishes: wave or flourish (something, especially a weapon) as a threat or in anger or excitement.
  2. Raw text was 『レベル譲渡トランスファー!』, and every MTL translated it as “Level transfer transfer!” which obviously doesn’t make sense, if anyone knows what it means, feel free to tell me and I’ll change it.

LSP – Chapter 2 –  13 years old

The level gauge, which appears above a child’s head, generally gets longer in proportion to their age. However, there are exceptions like Shari. The boy next door, who is the same age as me, is also one such exception.

“Hey, Tip. How are you doing?” (Finn)

I asked the boy in front of his house.

“I’m doing okay today.” (Tip)

The length of the gauge bar above Tip’s head, which represents his level, is about 0.1 when converted to a number. It’s shorter than Shari’s.

It seems like Tip has always had a weak body. Since my (or rather, Finn’s) little sister Shari has similar health issues, I feel a sense of closeness with Tip, who is the same age, and we get along well. I tell him about my recent adventure, the one where I went to gather herbs and got startled by a goblin. Tip listens with shining eyes.

“But some people do get killed by goblins, so Finn has to be careful too.” (Tip)

“Yeah, you’re right. I mean, I was really surprised. But when I shouted, it ran away, so maybe I should always walk in the forest shouting.” (Finn)

“But I’ve heard that there are monsters that are attracted by loud noises.” (Tip)

“Oh, I see. You really know a lot, Tip.” (Finn)

“Look at those knights over there. I asked Wen from that group about a lot of stuff before. Mostly related to monsters and the town outside and such. I heard that she has been to the royal capital too, you know.” (Tip)

This is my first time hearing about the outside world beyond the village. Apparently, there’s a place called the royal capital, which must be part of a kingdom. Since I was reincarnated in this world, I want to explore it. However, I’m just a kid and can’t leave without permission. Plus, I don’t have any money. And I can’t leave my sister behind either.

“Ehh~ How nice~ I want to go to the royal capital too and have all sorts of adventures.” (Finn)

“Then you need to become stronger, like become a swordsman or something. If it’s you, I believe that you can pull it off. Ahh, I want to become stronger too.” (Tip)

“You can do it too, Tip. Let’s get stronger together.” (Finn)

“Let’s go ask Wen-san for tips on how to get stronger from now on.” (Tip)

“Okay, got it.” (Finn)

“Great. It’s a promise, okay?” (Tip)

Tip holds out his hand and sticks out his thumb. I do the same in response.

“I want the blessings of a swordsman.” (Tip)

Tip murmurs towards the sky. His figure lacks presence and somehow seems to appear transparent.

“Yeah, I think you could become one, Tip.” (Finn)

When Tip feels better, we will practice swordsmanship together. From that day on, I started to train my body. We also planned to seek advice from Wen-san to become a swordsman and an adventurer.

Tip passed away two months later.

Ever since Tip’s death, I’ve been paying more attention to Shari’s level gauge above her head. I feel like it used to be around 0.2, but hasn’t it gotten shorter? It feels like the aspect ratio has become more vertical. Maybe around 0.1 now?

“Onii-chan, what are you looking at?” (Shari)

“Oh, umm…” (Finn)

Shari made a face that says “It can’t be helped” and approached me. She came up to my side while I was sitting in my chair, and hugged my head tightly to her chest. Suddenly, my head was enveloped in softness and a pleasant scent. It felt so good that I almost lost consciousness for a moment.

“Onii-chan, you don’t have to worry about Shari.” (Shari)

Despite being younger, she had too much compassion. And she was soft. My head was pushed against a subtle bulge. Is she really 11 years old?

“Wha! All of a sudden!” (Finn)

“Hehe~” (Shari)

Shari smiles a little.

Let’s change the subject before she gets suspicious of me again.

“By the way, in two years, you’ll be old enough to receive a blessing too, Shari.” (Finn)

“No, that’s not right. I’ll be the same age as Onii-chan in three months on my birthday!” (Shari)

“Huh, really?” (Finn)

In this world, birthdays are somewhat arbitrary, and some people don’t even remember their own. Age increases by one at New Year’s, using the traditional Japanese method of counting years. This means that someone who says they are 13 might actually be 12 or 11 in Japan. The vagueness about when one receives their blessings around “age 13” might be due to this system. It could be that birthdays are not used as the official marker of age.

If what Shari is saying is true, then there’s only a five-month age difference between me and her. It’s a bit too close for siblings, but since Shari is not my biological sister, it’s possible. However, Shari is not a stranger, but rather my cousin’s child, the child of my father’s older brother’s child. I wonder what they call this in Japanese, but since there’s no internet in this world, I can’t look it up.

Shari’s parents were unable to take care of her, so she was taken in by our family when she was young. She seems to remember that. She’s a smart girl.

“Shari is actually the same age as you, Onii-chan.” (Shari)

“Huh, why?” (Finn)

“I think its something related to taxes.” (Shari)

Shari tilted her head and thought for a moment.

It seems that they might have lied about Shari’s age when she was taken in. In this world, there is a tax based on the age range of the family, so it’s a common practice to lie about one’s age to avoid paying heavy taxes.

“Shari knows some difficult words, huh?” (Finn)

Shari looks proud and smug, but the fact that Shari might actually be 13 years old makes my head spin.

My (or rather Finn’s) father’s level gauge is about one and eight-tenths. In other words, 1.8. Although he is a farmer, he seems to have the blessing of being “strong,” so he is often taken on village hunts. He is absent today because of that.

Recently, although Shari’s condition has somewhat improved, her presence is still weak. Her level is still 0.1. Shari, who has recently learned how to cook, is cutting vegetables on the desk with a serious expression. Every time she cuts, her mouth moves in a cute way, like a small animal.

Shari finished cutting the potatoes. By the way, I washed the potatoes.

“Onii-chan, can you grab the pot?” (Shari)

She’s probably going to make soup. Shari puts the potatoes and some other vegetables in the pot. I pick up the pot and put it on the stove, then add water from the pitcher. It’s going to be a root vegetable soup.

“When is Auntie coming back?” (Shari)

“She said she will finish working in the field in the morning before coming back.” (Finn)

“Then let’s make the soup before she comes back.”(Shari).

Shari calls my mother “Oba-san” (auntie). She has been calling her that since they first met as relatives when we were little. I was surprised that she remembered it even though we were little, but then I realized that we are actually the same age.

Meanwhile, Shari calls me “Onii-chan” (big brother). She’s like a little sister to me, or rather, a real sister. Even though we’re the same age, she looks younger. On top of that, she’s really cute. I want to protect her. I decided that I won’t allow any bad bugs to come near Shari.

..

“Welcome back, Mom.” (Finn)

“Welcome back, Auntie.” (Shari)

Mom came back holding a basket with harvested turnips. She seemed to pause for a moment after being called “Auntie” but responded kindly with “I’m home, Finn and Shari. Thank you for making soup.”

Thanks to Mom’s water-related blessing, everyone washed their hands and sat down to eat. Mom chopped up the turnip leaves she just brought and quickly mixed them into the soup Shari made, adding a little salt. The potato and turnip soup was now ready. It is fairly nutritious. There was no meat though.

“When dad comes back, we can have some meat too, right mom?” (Finn)

“Yes…” (Finn’s Mom)

Mom seemed worried when she said that.

The village hunt always lasts for several days. The preys are usually deers, boars, and occasionally giant boars, which are said to weigh over 500 kilograms. It’s like a small car rushing towards them, and they have to hunt it with a spear.

After finishing lunch, Shari takes a nap while I start exercising in front of the house. I swing a wooden sword (or rather a branch) around in my own way but I don’t really understand what I’m doing. Maybe I should learn from someone? I’ve never done kendo or spear fighting in Japan either.

“Hey Finn, you’re practicing huh?” (???)

I heard my father’s voice. When I turned around, there he was with a thick spear over his shoulder, carrying a large piece of meat. Looks like the hunting party from the village had returned.

“Welcome back Dad! Is that a big boar?” (Finn)

Father nods his head with a proud expression. I run over and take a closer look at the meat, which has one leg attached, so I think it’s probably a quarter of a whole animal, but it still looks like it weighs a hundred kilos. My father is effortlessly holding it thanks to the power of his blessing. He can also cultivate the fields with the force of a tractor. It’s quite a cheat skill.

While being petted by my father, I suddenly look up at his head. There’s that level gauge again. The second bar is at the maximum, and there’s a little bit on the third bar. It’s at around 2.2. When he left home, it was around 1.8. It’s increasing!

Even though my father’s level gauge increased, it was something only I could see, so I couldn’t really ask him “Dad, did your level go up by any chance?” I need to find out what happened.

When I was still thinking about this, my mother also came out of the house. She welcomed my father with a happy expression. The worried look she had when my father left seemed to have disappeared, and she was beaming with a smile.

・・

The results of the hunt are gathered in the village square. After a while, Father returned with his share of the meat and the large spear from earlier.

“Dad, can I try holding that spear?” (Finn)

“It’s heavy you know?” (Finn’s Dad)

Father laughed as he handed it over. It is indeed really heavy, weighing more than ten kilograms, I think.

“I can’t imagine swinging something this heavy.” (Finn)

“You don’t swing it, you wait with it when the large boar charges at you.” (Finn’s Dad)

My father replied with a laugh.

I see. But this is way too heavy. Even an adult would struggle without the blessing of strength. I also feel like it would be a problem if the first hit didn’t connect properly, as it would be difficult to control.

The meat is placed on the table, cut into portions for immediate consumption, and the rest is salted. Some of the salted meat will be smoked later. We were allotted about ten kilograms of meat, which will last us for over a month. As we finished the work, the smell of cooking meat wafted through the air.

Today is a feast! The spare ribs cut from the wild boar are nicely browned. We’ll have them with some roasted potatoes and the leftover soup from lunch.

Itadakimasu!1” (Everyone)

For the first time in several days, our whole family is present for a meal. Mmm, delicious. Wild boar has a strong smell, but once you chew it, a good taste comes out. I wish I had some barbecue sauce and ketchup. I’ll add this to the list of things to do in my head. Salt and herbs are enough for today’s meal. Speaking of which, I wonder if tomatoes exist in this world.

It’s cute how Shari grabs the bone of the meat with both hands and eats it while getting her mouth and hands messy. It’s unfortunate that I can’t pat her head since my hands are sticky. By the way, the bones will be used for tomorrow’s soup stock2.

This is a good time to ask my father about his level-up situation.

“Did Dad take down this boar?” (Finn)

“That’s right. I was on spear duty this time. It’s tough to stand straight where the boar charges in.” (Finn’s Dad)

It’s like trying to spear a car that’s about to ram you. That must be scary.

“I wonder if I could do it too.” (Finn)

“It’s still impossible for Finn.” (Finn’s Dad)

“Was it scary?” (Finn)

“Yeah, I was a little scared. Wild boars have hard skulls, so even if you hit them with a spear on the head, they’ll bounce back. That’s why I had to jump and aim for its mouth, which was a bit nerve-wracking, but it’s actually easier to aim when it’s in the air. You just need to align the spear with where it’s going to land. It was a tough fight, but I’ll be fine next time.” (Finn’s Dad)

No, no, no, that’s dangerous. It’s absolutely impossible. I thought it would be easy to hit because the target is so big, but isn’t the hitbox actually quite small!? And if you miss, you’re dead.

Dad got really excited during the conversation and started talking with high enthusiasm.

“I will continue to be a spearbearer from now on.” (Finn’s Dad)

“Isn’t that dangerous?” (Finn’s Mom)

Mother asked while looking worried.

“Well, you see, I just received the blessing of being a spear user during this hunt. So it’ll be fine next time. Plus, the spear bearer gets to keep twice the amount of meat too.” (Finn’s Dad)

The word “blessing” unexpectedly came up.

“Did your blessings increase, Dad?” (Finn)

“Yeah, that’s right. When I took down the big boar with my spear this time, I was thinking that I wanted to use my spear more effectively, and that’s how I received the blessing of the spear. From now on, even if the prey moves unexpectedly, I’ll be able to adapt. The spear feels light, and I won’t miss against a big boar.” (Finn’s Dad)

It seems like leveling up and receiving blessings happen at the same time. Can you acquire blessings by defeating a wild boar and leveling up?

I think I might have found a solution.

TL notes:

Thanks for reading!
Man, Tip got removed from the story as fast as he was introduced. Also, sorry if the birthday stuff is confusing, I was wrecking my brain over trying to understand it.

Well so far I quite like this series, but chapters are quite long, so it may take more time for each chapter to come out. Never read ahead so I’m not sure if there is any romance going on or not so I didn’t add the romance genre, it could be really just a heavy case of siscon and brocons.

Footnotes:

  1. “Itadakimasu” is a polite thing in Japanese households to say before eating a meal. Something like “bon appétit”.
  2. Stock is a mixture of boiled or simmered ingredients that typically include animal bones, meats, vegetables, and possibly a small amount of salt. Stocks are often used as a base for foods such as soups, stews, sauces, and gravies. (thank you google-sensei)

LSP – Chapter 1 –  Reincarnated into this World

Children in this world receive blessings and become adults around the age of 13.

When I say “this world” it means that I am not a native of this world. I realized this just last week when I turned 13 and received my blessing.

When I woke up in the morning of that day, I noticed something strange above my family’s heads. Even though I could not see it when looking at it directly, it became visible the moment I averted my gaze. It was like a rod or a bar, resembling a life gauge for an RPG character.

It was at that moment that I recalled many things about my previous life.

I was supposed to be a university student in Japan but I suddenly found myself here, as a child in a village as if I was in an RPG game. This child’s name is Finn.

“Onii-chan, good morning.” (Shari)

My sister Shari, who had been bedridden for all of yesterday, floated out of the bedroom. She is an 11-year-old girl with blonde hair, a delicate and fair complexion, and a fairy-like appearance. She’s like a beautiful girl created by God as a hobby. Her body is weak, and she sleeps for about half the day every day. Fortunately, she seems to be feeling a little better today.

Shari sits in the chair next to me and looked at me. I poured water from the jug into a ceramic cup and handed it to her. Then, she tilts her head slightly and drinks the water while looking like an angel. When I moved my gaze, I can see the bar floating just a little bit above her head.

It seems that I still remember everything that has happened in this world so far, including Shari.

The world I am in, or rather the only thing I know of as a child, is that this village had a so-called European medieval style with RPG elements.

I don’t really know if this is what European medieval times were really like, but there was a village with fields and forests, and apparently, there were monsters in the depths of the forest. The lord would have their soldiers patrol around with swords to prevent the monsters from coming out of the forest. It was that kind of setting.

And then there was me, a child who looked different from when I was Japanese. I looked more like a Westerner, with sandy-colored eyes and hair. But there were others like me in the village, so it wasn’t that unusual. My father looked the same way too. My mother had brown hair and brown eyes, though. Well, we didn’t have a mirror in our house, so I never really got a good look at myself.

In this world, all adults have a special ability called “blessing”. Some of these blessings include skills such as ‘strength’, ‘speed’’ or ‘swordsmanship’, while others are like magic, such as being able to create fire from hands. In other words, adults are those who have received a blessing at the age of 14 or older.

It seems that my blessing was the ability to see a bar above people’s heads. When I first realized I reincarnated, I tried to say “Status Open,” but nothing appeared, and I didn’t get any explanation. This world is so unkind.

By the way, my father has the strength blessing and can easily lift up an entire person. My mother has the water blessing and can create water. In normal households, fetching water is a job for children, but we are exempt from that.

I haven’t told my parents about my blessing yet. I had a hard time telling my father who has been saying things like “I hope you receive a good blessing.” But saying “I can see a bar above you” is a bit difficult. However, I can’t keep it a secret forever.

It has been about a week since I regained my memories in this world. I had wandered around the village, looking at the heads of everyone, or at least the 300 or so people in the village. As a result, I had a rough idea about what my blessing is.

“I think this might be a level gauge.” (Finn)

After looking more carefully at the people in the village, I noticed that everyone had a bar above their head. The bars varied in length and number, but the children’s bars were all less than one full bar length. I decided to call this level 0, for now.

When a person becomes an adult, in other words, around the age when they receive their blessing, the first bar becomes filled and a second one begins to grow. These people are at level 1. There are many level 1 adults in the village, including my father and mother. I’m also at this level.

Around 30% of adults have their second bar filled, making them Level 2. Only about 10% of people have their third bar filled, making them Level 3 and incredibly strong. The only ones at level 4 are the knights who occasionally come from the lord’s estate to guard the village.

It seems that this level does not continue to increase with age. As people age, their level appears to decrease gradually, so the old man next door is only Level 1.

I quietly glance at the bar floating above my little sister’s head. It is extremely short compared to others. While most children around her age of 11 are at least close to level 1, if I had to put a number on it, Shari’s would be 0.2. It’s almost as if she doesn’t have any presence, even though she’s such a beautiful girl. Rather than being a transparent beauty, it feels like she might disappear if you’re not paying attention.

I patted Shari’s head, who was sitting in the chair next to me drinking water. Shari closes her eyes, looking comfortable. Her blonde hair swims smoothly in my hand. She really is an angel. I want to keep stroking her hair, but I should go get something for her to eat while she’s still in good shape.

“I’m going out for a bit.” (Finn)

“Onii-chan, be careful.” (Shari)

My house is a typical farmhouse in the middle of the countryside – a small wooden house consisting of a living room connected to the earth-floored area, a bedroom, and that’s pretty much it. We also have cows, sheep, and chickens for agricultural purposes in the backyard.

Although I said I am going to buy food, it’s not like a 13-year-old kid in the village would have cash on hand. So, I first go to an old lady who lives on the outskirts of the village, and who deals with medicinal herbs.

“Grandma, do you need any errands done today?” (Finn)

That’s right, it’s a quest. If I bring herbs to this grandma, she will give me some pocket change. I can use that to buy bread and fruit. It’s a trick I learned as a child. By the way, this grandma is a level 2.

“Oh, it’s Finn. How’s your sister doing?” (Grandma)

“She seems to be doing okay today. So, I was thinking of going to buy some food for her.” (Finn)

“Ah, I see. By the way, when I was a child, I was also weak and had a hard time with various things, but at that time, I was also cute and everyone called me an angel.” (Grandma)

“I see… But what about the errand?!” (Finn)

“Hmm. Then, could you bring me a branch of this leaf that strengthens your body? Don’t go too deep into the forest, though. Goblins might appear.” (Grandma)

“Got it! No problem!” (Finn)

I hold the sample leaf in my hand and checked that the knife my father gave me is in the small bag before I leave.

The fields outside the village are filled with potatoes, wheat, and grass. The fact that there are potatoes means that it’s not a real medieval Europe, so unfortunately I can’t exploit any potato cheats.1

After passing through the fields, I entered the forest. According to the old lady, the medicinal herb grows in the shade. I searched for a spot under the trees. Using my knowledge as a Finn, I have a vague idea of where they might grow, having found them before. After about an hour of searching, I found a plant that seems to be what I am looking for. I used my knife to cut off the branches, roll them up, and put them into a small bag.

“Alright, let’s head back.” (Finn)

As I lifted my head, there was a small green goblin in front of me.

“Woahh!!” (Finn)

I screamed in surprise, and the green goblin in front of me was also startled by my loud voice.

The creature in front of me is a humanoid being, not even one meter tall. It is holding a tree branch… club thing? In its hand. Based on my fantasy knowledge, it’s a goblin. The grandma who told me about the medicinal herb earlier also mentioned goblins. So, they really do exist.

This goblin is about the size of a large dog. Seeing a large dog in person can be scary, so it’s impossible to deal with one that’s armed and approaching you.

I turned around and ran away as fast as I could. This is bad, I have no choice but to run. I need to get out of this forest as soon as possible. I ran frantically, my feet almost tripping me up. I stumbled on a tree root and fell down. I crawled towards my knife that flew out of my hand and picked it up. I looked around to see if the goblin was still following me.

…There was no goblin.

I ran out of the forest and returned to the village. I went to the grandma who sells medicinal herbs and opened the small bag.

“This is the herb (wheeze) you were talking about, right? (wheeze)” (Finn)

“Oh, yes. By the way, what happened? You’re covered in mud and scratch marks. Did you run into some goblins?” (Grandma)

“That’s right! Goblins! I thought I was going to die!” (Finn)

“How many of them were there?” (Grandma)

“One.” (Finn)

“I see. That must have been a surprise. But if it’s just one, and you stay calm, it’s weaker than a person, so you should be okay. They’re timid creatures, so if you scare them, they’ll run away.” (Grandma)

“Come to think of it, it disappeared when I shouted loudly.” (Finn)

“Be careful, though. If there were many, there could be some danger. They might call for their friends.” (Grandma)

“I got it, so Grandma, I’m going home now.” (Finn)

“Uh-huh, here is your reward.” (Grandma)

After leaving, I went to buy some bread and apples before heading back home. Shari ate them with relish, but she looked worried about me, who was scraped in various places.

“Onii-chan, when Shari receives a blessing, she will heal these wounds right away.” (Shari)

“Yeah, thank you, Shari.” (Finn)

I boiled some water and added the medicinal herb I received, then poured it into a cup and handed the herbal tonic tea to Shari.

“Drink this tea, it’s good for your body.” (Shari)

Shari nodded and sips the tea. I gently stroked her golden hair.

“Onii-chan, Shari wants to go on adventures with you. You’ll defeat the monsters, and Shari will use magic to heal your wounds and help you. And then…” (Shari)

With Shari feeling better, she started to talk a lot. I hug her head and close my eyes so I won’t see the short bar above her head.

“Onii-chan, Shari will protect you…” (Shari)

My little sister said that happily.

TL notes:

Thanks for reading!
Grandma is already planting that flag.

OMG That was so many words to translate and edit. I have not read ahead, so I have no idea if all chapters are this long, but the first chapter looks promising. There are AI generated images, in about 80% of the novel, and they look rly nice, so you can look forward to that.

Btw halfway through editing this chapter, my brain turned off and I started typing in (Goblin) instead of (Grandma) for her lines LOL, it was quite funny when I looked back at it HAHAHA.

P.S. Does “Onii-chan, good morning” or “Good morning, Onii-chan” sound better? In the raws, onii-chan is usually added at the end, but do you prefer it at the front?

  1. Potatoes originated in the Americas, and were therefore unavailable in Europe before 1492 (google search result). Although, I am not sure about what potato cheats mean.

Description:

The protagonist, Finn, is a 13-year-old who possesses the knowledge of a Japanese university student but has no memories of his past life.

In this world, people can acquire special abilities called “blessings” as their level increases. However, children who do not level up will die.

Finn’s blessing is the ability to see other people’s levels, but during a battle to help his sister Shari, who cannot level up, he acquires a new blessing called “Level Transfer,” which allows him to transfer his own levels to others through a kiss.

As Finn continues to transfer his levels to his sister through kisses, a beautiful elf girl named Akari appears before them. She claims to be Finn’s little sister, who was also reincarnated from Japan. Akari tells them that they need to go to a dungeon to return to Japan, but they do not know where the dungeon is located. Meanwhile, they begin to run out of goblins to level up on.

The three siblings venture into the forest in search of stronger opponents for leveling up and eventually find the dungeon. It is filled with goblins, which had been previously undiscovered.
